There is bad news for Milan from international duty, because centre-forward Olivier Giroud has limped off while playing for France with a left ankle injury.
The striker was in the starting XI for this evening’s EURO 2024 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland in Paris.
He had already undergone some treatment earlier in the game with spray applied to the left ankle.
Giroud then tried to continue playing, but when sliding in as he tried to get on the end of a cross from his Milan teammate Theo Hernandez, the veteran waved to the bench and asked to be substituted at the 25th minute.
The France legend turns 37 later this month and took off his left boot before hobbling off the field, visibly in pain.
He was replaced by Inter forward Marcus Thuram.
It is the worst news for Milan, as they will play a Scudetto showdown with arch-rivals Inter on the Saturday after the break for international duty.
Giroud had a sensational start to the season, scoring four goals in just three Serie A games, also providing an assist.
Looked like the top of his foot. Didn’t seem much in the challenges… Hope he’s ok.
Not surprising. Milan owners seem to think strikers pushing 40 should be full time starters. He is good but he would be a sub for most other top teams not a regular starter.
