Milan are preparing to possibly part ways with Stefano Pioli in the summer and one potential replacement is Julen Lopetegui, transfer market expert Matteo Moretto says.

The Rossoneri’s failure to progress in the Champions League and their inability to keep up with Inter in the title race has further increased the pressure on Pioli, who has seemingly lost the trust of the fans two years after their Scudetto success.

Many now expect Milan to replace Pioli, whose contract lasts until 2025, in the summer and have started dreaming of various possible replacements including Antonio Conte and Roberto De Zerbi, with some even holding out hope for Jurgen Klopp.

Transfer market expert Matteo Moretto told Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing that Milan will meet with Pioli at the end of the season to discuss the coach’s future, wanting to keep focus on Serie A and the Europa League for the remainder of the campaign.

The Rossoneri have various options in mind to replace the Italian coach, drawing up a shortlist of two or three options, and one of these is Lopetegui. The former Spain and Real Madrid coach is still out of work following his departure from Wolves in August of last year.

Milan still need to make a final decision regarding Pioli first, however, and this won’t occur until the end of the season. Lopetegui has offers in the Premier League but is still waiting for ‘the right project’.
