Investcorp’s interest in purchasing Milan from Elliott Management has shaken the Rossoneri world but the squad cannot afford distractions at this crucial stage of the season.

The media reports that the Bahraini investment fund are ready to pay around €1 billion for the Milanese club and talks are already ongoing, with initial signs looking positive. This has not come at a convenient time for Stefano Pioli’s side, who are bitterly fight for two pieces of silverware this season.

As detailed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the interest in buying Milan should not be a surprise considering their growth since Elliott’s initial takeover four years ago. Back then the Rossoneri were struggling in mediocrity and their finances were disastrous, but now the ship has been rightened and the team have returned to the top.

Whilst the news of a possible Investcorp takeover do seem positive, it’s not something that Pioli or his players can pay any attention too. The Rossoneri still have six Serie A games remaining to try and secure their first Scudetto in a decade and they’ll face Inter in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals next week.

This was something highlighted by Paolo Maldini ahead of last night’s win over Genoa, when he stated that “with six days to go it’s in everyone’s interest, including the club, to think about trying to win this season and concentrate on the Coppa Italia semi-final, which could be a great goal. Heart and brain on the pitch and little thought to what happens outside the green rectangle.”

Maldini also noted that a sale is entirely possible now, saying “we know little but it is normal that in the future of Milan there could be a sale, when it will be I don’t know.”

  1. I think the journalist have a point. Players have started to count their days by now, especiall the ones that has been playing below par like Diaz.
Leao and others who offered contract extension would postpone the signature until the takeover finish to either see the project benefit themself on sporting side or simply can push their salary higher later on
