‘Milan shirt must be honoured’

Andriy Shevchenko has insisted that the Milan jersey ‘must always be considered an honour’ after reflecting on Gonzalo Higuain’s exit.

Shevchenko scored 175 goals in 296 appearances for Milan as their No 9, while Higuain managed just half a season with the Rossoneri prior to joining Chelsea on Wednesday.

“Milan are good enough for Champions League, even without Higuain, but with the Argentine they would’ve found it easier,” the Ukraine boss told Giornale.

“ I don’t know what made him go into a crisis, but we can all have ups and downs during our careers.

“I don’t know what his or Bonucci’s motives to leave were, but I know that wearing this shirt must always be considered an honour.”

The Argentine has since been replaced at San Siro by Krzysztof Piatek…

“Higuain and Piatek are two players who like to finish moves off in the box,” added Sheva.

“Higuain helps a lot more in the build-up, but both can contribute when they near the opposing goal.

“Higuain has more physical strength, but Piatek is quicker. Higuain has written great pages in the history of football, while Piatek is a prospect who has already begun to show his great ability.”
