Milan have sent their first formal offer to AS Monaco for midfielder Yousseff Fofana, but the Ligue 1 side are expected to swiftly turn it down, according to reports in Italy.

The Rossoneri have been linked with a move for the France international for most of this summer, but have not yet come to an agreement on terms with Monaco.

Milan lodge first Fofana offer with Monaco

According to updates from Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan’s first official offer to Monaco was worth €17m, however, the selling club are pushing for a fee close to double that amount.

Despite the fact that Fofana is into the final year of his contract in Ligue 1, Monaco still value the 25-year-old at €35m. It is thought that interest in Fofana from Atletico Madrid and Manchester United convinced Monaco into upping their asking price.

Di Marzio adds that there is still hope that Milan and Monaco can meet somewhere in the middle, but the latter side are not expected to entertain the €17m offer.

Milan, meanwhile, have evaluated a number of different options in midfield, including Adrien Rabiot, who is currently available as a free agent after the expiry of his Juventus contract this summer. USMNT midfielder Johnny Cardoso has also been suggested, as has Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Manu Koné.
