Milan secure comfortable win in friendly vs Olympique Marseille

Milan cruised to a well earned 2-0 win in their pre-season friendly against a fiery Olympique Marseille side tonight.

Only two weeks ahead of the start of the Rossoneri’s Serie A campaign, they secured a strong win against an equally strong opponent tonight, giving Stefano Pioli good signs ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Junior Messias was the star of the day, finding the opener with a great looping shot and providing the assist for Olivier Giroud’s goal, proving his quality for the Milanese club.

Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu both had good showings, remaining alert and well positioned throughout the match. Things were also positive in midfield, with Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer holding their own against a physical opponent.

Milan looked for a third goal throughout the second half and had several decent chances, but ultimately they were forced to settle for a 2-0 win. Marseille didn’t roll over and accept defeat, fighting tooth and nail in the match. Possibly a little too much so, as Isaac Toure got sent off in the 78th for an incredibly reckless challenge.

Milan’s final pre-season friendly is against Vicenza on August 6, before their Serie A campaign kicks off against Udinese on August 13.
