Milan cruised to a well earned 2-0 win in their pre-season friendly against a fiery Olympique Marseille side tonight.

Only two weeks ahead of the start of the Rossoneri’s Serie A campaign, they secured a strong win against an equally strong opponent tonight, giving Stefano Pioli good signs ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Junior Messias was the star of the day, finding the opener with a great looping shot and providing the assist for Olivier Giroud’s goal, proving his quality for the Milanese club.

Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu both had good showings, remaining alert and well positioned throughout the match. Things were also positive in midfield, with Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer holding their own against a physical opponent.

Milan looked for a third goal throughout the second half and had several decent chances, but ultimately they were forced to settle for a 2-0 win. Marseille didn’t roll over and accept defeat, fighting tooth and nail in the match. Possibly a little too much so, as Isaac Toure got sent off in the 78th for an incredibly reckless challenge.

Milan’s final pre-season friendly is against Vicenza on August 6, before their Serie A campaign kicks off against Udinese on August 13.

7 thought on “Milan secure comfortable win in friendly vs Olympique Marseille”
  1. Nice win against a good side. Scored two, could’ve been more. Safe at the back. Messias was certainly on fire with his great goal and as.sist. Impressive.

All the players look fit and I’m curious to see what Origi and De Ketelaere can add to our already well-oiled machine. We’re ready for the start of the season.

Milan 20 (9) shots to Marseille’s 5 (1) and they were playing in their own stadium which was almost full.

  2. First half was so overwhelmingly one side that the crowd booed loudly Marseille. The domination was so obvious that a 4-0 would have been a logical result. Maignan was really stealing Milan‘s money today because he was a privileged spectator. Even with the merry go round substitutions Milan still looked in control. Look how different Milan and Inter looked this weekend. Marotta has work to do in the mercato, thing is if Zhang will give him some funds to do it

  3. It’s important to note that OM is also ahead of preparation as their season starts next week whereas Milan still has two weeks. Total domination today at their stadium.

  4. In a case we really bring Sanchez, I think our team would be ready to defend the Scudetto, as well as going far away in the CL! Again, everyone is underestimating us, but I believe Milan will once again show them just how wrong they all are. I truly believe our team doesn’t miss much of anything (especially not in the defense, as I’m quite sure Kjaer will come back just as strong as he was before the injury, and hopefully, Gabbia will also have a good season, as a 4th choice for a CD). Everyone’s talking about Rubetus & Inter, making us look as if we won the last year’s Scudetto on a pure luck. But that’s not the case – we’ll prove it. And when it comes to CL, last season was our 1st after 7 sasons, we had only a handful of players with CL experience, and on top of it all, we were in the “group of death”. Hopefully, this year, the draw won’t be so merciless & with the last year’s experience, our team won’t have too many problems going to the 1/8 finals.
Forza Milan! I can’t wait for da new season to begin.

  5. From what I can see Milan are still favorites to retain the Scudetto. Inter and Juve seem like a never ending mess of problems. With the exception of being a bit stingy for Keteleare, since they really wanted him, management and team have been working quietly and building a good project.
