According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Simon Kjaer is likely to remain out of action for six months with a knee injury, so his season is potentially over.

The Dane sustained an injury in the opening minutes of GenoaMilan on Wednesday and yesterday’s exams highlighted damage to the ligaments of his left knee.

Kjaer will undergo surgery today and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he is not expected to return to the pitch before six months, meaning his season is virtually over.

The 32-year-old has played 14 games across all competitions this season and has recently signed a two-year contract extension with the Serie A giants.

Kjaer ranked 18th at the Ballon d’Or on Monday night.

The Rossoneri have Matteo Gabbia, Fikayo Tomori and Alessio Romagnoli as centre defenders and will likely sign a new centre-back in January.

Milan are expected to release an official statement after today’s surgery to confirm the expected recovery time for the experienced defender who has played 54 games with the Diavoli since he arrived in January 2020.

5 thought on “Milan: season over for injured Kjaer?”
  1. I`m incredibly sorry for him, even though he is playing for Milan. Have great respect for this man, hope he quickly recovers.

    Best wishes from an Interista

  2. I thought he was done after disastrous spell with Atalanta, and I couldn’t be more wrong. In Milan, under Pioli, He totally deserves Ballon D’or nomination, and not just because he saved Eriksen’s life.

I’ve been watching many Milan games this past year as Inter fan, hoping they would slip. Kjaer has great understanding in reading the game, intercepting the pass, and anticipate the movement of opponent’s forward. He’s not the best in 1 on 1 and quite slow, but that’s understandable given his age.

Too bad about his long injury, perhaps he has played too many games.

  3. Couldn’t have happened to a better man. He didn’t deserve this.

We’re in real trouble and need to sign a truly good center-back in January, because with Romagnoli and Gabbia we’ll slip out of the top 4 by the end of the season.
