Today's edition of the Gazzetta dello Sport corroborates a story related yesterday by the Corriere dello Sport, as it is believed that club President Berlusconi, joint-CEO Adriano Galliani and former Coach Sacchi met for dinner and discussed the Diavolo's future.
While this was officially a leisure meeting, all reports suggest that business was discussed as well.
Berlusconi allegedly wants Brocchi to be promoted from coaching the youth squad to the senior squad, not least because he would be a very cheap option.
The President may be prepared to appoint him as early as this Saturday, should a poor result against Juventus compel Berlusconi to sack the Serbian.
Galliani and Sacchi both advised him against this course of action, with the former pushing for the appointment of Lippi in the summer.
While Lippi wouldn't be as cheap as Brocchi, he'd be a more experienced and confirmed Coach. Galliani, who has been under heavy criticism for some of his transfer choices, would prefer to have a Coach that meets greater popular consensus.
But Sacchi's advice was reportedly to go for Sassuolo Coach Di Francesco, whose excellent offensive game and results at a minor club mirror Sacchi's own early career.
The deal is not easy and Berlusconi doesn't seem too enthusiastic, but it is believed he may reconsider. The Italian magnate had previously been recommended by Sacchi to sign current Napoli Coach Maurizio Sarri, and he regrets not taking that advice.
Alternatively, Sacchi would push for the candidature of Empoli's Marco Giampaolo.
