Inter have a realistic chance of securing their Scudetto with a Derby della Madonnina win, something rivals Milan are desperate to stop.

The Nerazzurri may have dropped points in their last outing against Napoli, but they still look destined to win their 20th ever Scudetto this season, holding a 14-point lead over second place Milan with just nine matches left to play.

Should Inter maintain their current 14-point advantage for the coming games, they could win the Scudetto with a derby victory over Milan on April 22. With this title being the 20th in the club’s history, they’d also be awarded the honour of sewing on a second Scudetto star on their shirts.

Page 10 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Milan are desperate not to award Inter their second Scudetto star with a loss in the Derby della Madonnina, leaving them with just two options a month ahead of the clash.

The first is to find a way to reduce the point gap to -12, hoping their rivals slip up with another draw in the coming games whilst also maintaining their own winning streak.

The other path involves Milan dropping points themselves, meaning Inter could already have secured their Scudetto ahead of the derby.

Regardless, it’ll be a strange but important derby for the Rossoneri, who have now lost their last five consecutive meetings with the Nerazzurri. The last win for Stefano Pioli’s side came in their meeting on September 3rd, 2022.
