Milan have done well in their chase of the Scudetto this season, but three specific goalkeeping errors have significantly boosted their chances of success.

The Rossoneri currently sit top of the Serie A table after 35 games, two points ahead of second place Inter. With only three games remaining, things are set to come down to the wire in Italy as Europe’s best title race continues. The Rossoneri have made huge strides under Stefano Pioli and a Scudetto would be a worthy reward after such a long journey.

Three separate goalkeeping errors have influenced Milan’s Scudetto hopes, however, starting with Alex Meret’s mistake in Napoli’s clash with Empoli. He was robbed of the ball by Andrea Pinamonti, who scored the equalising goal before finding the winner moments later, essentially ending Napoli’s title run.

The next major mistake was made by Ionut Radu; the Inter goalkeeper made a disastrous slip up in the match against Bologna, allowing Nicola Sansone to score the winner, giving the Rossoneri a serious boost.

The last goalkeeping error in favour of Milan was Pietro Terracciano’s error in the Rossoneri’s 1-0 win on Sunday, allowing them to maintain their momentum in the final stage of the season.

  1. What goes around comes around. Milan have already lost 3 points because of some fatal goalkeeping errors when Tatarusanu played against Fiorentina in the first leg.

Anyway, it just goes to show how important the goalkeepers are, and we have the best GK in the league by a mile.

  2. We can’t say these mistakes alone is the reason Milan are top of the league. More important have been Mike Maignan’s saves. The save in the 2nd half against Fiorentina was an example of his importance. Maignan hasn’t just replaced Donnaruma, he has been an improvement. Best keeper in Europe for me. Forza Milan!

  3. This article is really shortsighted. You have to use this metric for the entire season not only for Milan, but also Inter and Napoli.
You can’t just honestly look at the last three weeks, then come up with a conclusion like that.

  4. Milan can’t blame lady luck for the number of injuries they had this season. When a team wins the scudetto it’s merit goes to every member of the clib including even the bus driver. So they better improve their staff to reduce the number of injuries they may have for next season.
