La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Milan are ready to spend up to €100m to strengthen the team next summer and Sven Botman will likely be their first signing.

According to multiple reports, the Rossoneri are finalising an agreement with Lille for the Netherlands international, who has already agreed personal terms with the Serie A giants. Milan will invest circa €25-30m to secure his signature in the summer.

Botman is only the first reinforcement for the Rossoneri, who are also on the lookout for a centre midfielder, a Trequartista and a centre forward. Botman’s teammate Renato Sanches is seen as their No.1 target in the middle of the park.

Milan agree deal to sign Newcastle target Botman

His contract runs out in 2023 and his agent Jorge Mendes is on good terms with Milan. Mendes also represents Rafael Leao who will soon extend with the Rossoneri. Sanches price tag is similar to Botman’s, but Milan are trying to lower the French club’s demands.

Gianluca Scamacca has become their primary target in attack. The Rossoneri will meet Sassuolo next week to sound out the availability of the Italy international. Inter have also set their sights on the 23-year-old who may extend with the Neroverdi before changing club over the summer. Sassuolo want €40m Scamacca and that would already make circa €100m for the three signings.

However, the arrival of a new striker doesn’t rule out the signing of Divock Origi from Liverpool, who can be deployed as an attacking winger in Milan’s 4-2-3-1 formation. The Liverpool man is close to reaching an agreement with the Serie A giants over a free move in the summer.

  1. So Elliott which has been frugal when it comes to spending si going to cough up a 100mil all of a sudden for a summer spree?? And since when is Scamacca worth 40mil?!

    ENNNNN OHHHHHHHH!

  2. We’ve been frugal because we haven’t been in Europe. I think holding on to the purse strings even up to this this Jan was the right move. Now UCL for next year is all but secured, it’s time to start putting quality in all positions and ensuring we are in it every year (which will get easier with the impending rule changes anyway).

Also if you look at who we are buying/being linked with, we are basically brand-building. Ultimately they want to sell up for profit.

  3. Correct positions being spoken about in this article for me. Botman, Sanches and Scamacca would strengthen the spine of the team. If Milan actually spend 100 million on those 3 positions I would be shocked but that would surely be the end of the spending until summer 2023.

  4. Milan fans saying that Milan have been frugal forget the 15M spent on Maignan, 28M on Tomori, 18M on Tonali, and 1M on Giroud as well as money spent on Ballo Toure, Messias, Florenzi and other fringe players. Just this past summer Milan has already spent over 70M to strengthen their team.

Amazing how an additional 30M will make people lose their minds.

  5. 65m on permanent transfers for 5 players compared to 100m on permanent transfers for 3 players is the actual comparison.

Its a step up in spending terms from average 13m per player to average 33m per player. I don’t think it’s a huge deal to question if it will happen.

  6. Maingan
    Calabria – Tomori – Botman – Hernandez
    R Sanches – Tonali – ??
    Berardi – Scamacca ??

Bennacer might be good enough for the 3rd midfield position, while Leao is tough to judge. Like many wingers, he’s too hot and cold and can vanishes for long periods. If they’re offered a huge fee for him, he might be worth selling to sign the above and another left-winger.

  7. @Ferban. Fans are always looking to start fielding newly bought players than their old players and I can’t believe someone would exclude Bennacer from the starting lineup in favour of Tonali and Sanchez who hasn’t been tested in serieA and then later you complain players has no loyalty if you trash them at every buy you get… Bennacer has been our best midfielder so far this season even though he wasn’t in great form at the beginning and last season did a great job with Kessie.. This is exactly why I stopped blaming those players who moves on when they get better opportunities!

  8. @Stan

Tonali has been their best midfielder this season.

Bennacer has been on the bench nearly as many times as he’s started this season, so that’s an odd situation for someone who “has been our best midfielder this season”. Last season was his worst yet, so I’m not sure what you mean he did a great job.

Sanches hasn’t proved himself in Serie A? Well, obviously – he’s never played in it lol. He’d have to join and play here before being tested. Was Bennacer tested before he was signed?

    Where did I mention loyalty?

  9. You make a good point Stan. A few bad games and some fans want to get rid, no matter who it is. As bad as football is, it’s not that bad. These folks think FIFA is reality and you can just buy and sell who you want at any time.

That’s not aimed at Ferban by the way, just a general point, although I do see 4 players there who Milan haven’t even signed yet!
