La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Rafael Leao will undergo medical examinations between today and tomorrow but it’s unlikely to see the Portuguese striker start against Atalanta on Saturday.

Leao missed the last three games across all competitions due to a thigh injury and Stefano Pioli said last week that the Rossoneri would do ‘anything’ to have him available against Atalanta in the next Serie A match on Saturday, December 9.

According to Monday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (page 17), Leao will undergo medical examinations today or Tuesday. If Leao’s thigh has ‘clinically healed’, Milan doctors will start ‘phase two’ allowing Leao to work on the pitch and gradually increase workload through the week.

However, Gazzetta claims that the 24-year-old has limited chances to start against Atalanta on Saturday, but could feature in the Rossoneri’s starting XI four days later when Pioli’s men travel to Newcastle for the final Champions League group stage game which Milan must win to keep their qualification hopes alive.
