According to reports on Thursday evening, Milan have informally presented a verbal proposal to goalkeeper Mike Maignan over a contract extension on an improved set of personal terms.

The France international has been instrumental for the Rossoneri since his arrival at San Siro two and a half years ago, being named in the Serie A Team of the Year for both the 2021-22 season and the 2022-23 campaign in his first two years in Italy.

Maignan also played a massive part in Milan’s journey to the Serie A title in his first season with the club, having replaced Gianluigi Donnarumma after his departure for Paris in the summer of 2021.

The 28-year-old currently has a contract with Milan that is set to expire in the summer of 2026, however, the club would ideally like to extend the current deal, and offer Maignan better wages to fend off interest from other clubs across Europe.

According to information from Calciomercato.com, Milan are prepared to offer Maignan an annual salary of €5m plus individual and team-related bonuses.

Thursday’s report suggests that Maignan’s entourage would ideally prefer a set figure in the region of €7m-€8m per season.

Meanwhile, in the background, it has been suggested that Bayern Munich have a long-standing interest in the Frenchman, and that he is among the options to replace club legend Manuel Neuer once he decides to hang up his gloves.
