Milan are reportedly preparing to offer influential goalkeeper Mike Maignan a new long-term contract extension after impressing between the sticks for the Rossoneri since his arrival from Lille in 2021.

Maignan was a crucial cog in Milan’s Scudetto winning campaign under Stefano Pioli in 2021-22 and, despite missing a large chunk of the season through injury, has proved his value to the team since making his return in February.

Since then, the 27-year-old has been impressively consistent, and with an average rating of 6.35 across the 21 Serie A matches he has played in this season, has been the highest rated player on Milan’s books, followed by Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer.

According to reports in La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri are hoping to reward the Frenchman with a new deal lasting until the summer of 2028, which would be the joint-longest contract at the club after Rafael Leao agreed to a long-term renewal earlier in May.

Maignan’s new deal would also come with a major increase in his annual salary, which is expected to rise by at least 30% from the 2.8m per season he currently earns to around €4m.

With Milan’s season one game away from completion and having secured Champions League football in the penultimate round of Serie A fixtures last weekend, La Gazzetta writes that the club are ready to begin negotiations in the near future.

  1. Milan‘s most important player by a country mile. The team’s most consistent player as well. Hopefully next season he stays fit throughout the campaign though.
