Olivier Giroud has proven a key figure for Milan since his arrival last year and the club are reportedly ready to reward him with a contract extension.

The 35-year-old French forward joined the club in a deal worth around €1m from Chelsea last summer, adding another experienced veteran to the Rossoneri’s frontline alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Giroud was expected to play a similar role to the Swede, being a point of reference for the younger members of the squad and a reliable back-up, but he’s gone above and beyond this.

As reported by Calciomercato.com journalist Daniele Longo, Milan are ready to extend Giroud’s contract for another year, pushing back the expiry date by a year from 2023 to 2024.

Injuries to Ibrahimovic, Ante Rebic and Divock Origi have made the Frenchman’s reliability and experience key as the Rossoneri look to defend their Scudetto this season.

In the opening seven Serie A matches, Giroud has scored four goals and provided one assist.
