Milan plan to replace Franck Kessié with Renato Sanches next season, but Arsenal are still in the race to sign the former Bayern Munich starlet.

Sanches has emerged as one of Milan’s priority targets given that his contract with Lille expires in June 2023.

Last week, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Milan are leading the race to secure his signature, adding that the Portuguese star had rejected Arsenal’s offer.

However, during his interview with L’Equipe, Sanches suggested that the Gunners are still in the race.

“Maybe Milan and Arsenal are interested but I don’t know,” Sanches said.

“Milan are a big and historic club. It’s class, I like them.”

Should he join Milan, Sanches would replace Franck Kessié in the middle of the park at San Siro.

The Ivorian star seems likely to leave Milan at the end of his contract in June.

Di Marzio: Kessie wants €9m Milan salary

The Rossoneri haven’t been able to reach an agreement over his contract extension with the player’s agent reportedly demanding a new €9m-a-year deal.

Sanches would cover the same role as Kessié, but the competition to sign the Lille star will be fierce.

Barcelona had reached an agreement to sign Sanches last summer, but a meniscus injury prevented the player from moving to the Nou Camp.

  1. That would be an extremely beautiful move, he is a better player than Kessie, but honestly I really don’t understand how players and agents think, the world of football is starting to recover from the pandemic and u demand €9million a season, u were offered 6, triple your current salary, and u are still holding out…??
