USMNT midfielder Yunus Musah is set to get another opportunity out on the right wing for Milan when they play against Empoli in Serie A at the weekend, but Paulo Fonseca looks set to drop Tammy Abraham from his line-up, despite getting a goal and assist against Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Milan will host Empoli at San Siro on Saturday evening in the 14th round of 2024-25 Serie A fixtures.

Pre-match reports suggest that Musah will play as a starter on the right-wing for Milan. Calciomercato suggest that his position on the wing will only really be for phases out of possession, and that he will be used as an ‘extra’ midfielder when the Rossoneri are on the ball.

How Milan could line up against Empoli

He is likely to be joined by Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao, behind Alvaro Morata at centre-forward. Tijjani Reijnders and Youssouf Fofana, again, are the expected midfielders in Fonseca’s double pivot.

That means that Abraham will have to settle for a place on the bench again, despite putting in an encouraging performance against Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League.

Fonseca admitted during his pre-match press conference that he will consider reverting back to a system that features two strikers, like he did for the 2-1 victory against Inter earlier in the season, but hinted that this will not be the case against Empoli.

“It’s an idea that’s still in my head. It’ll be an option when I think it can be an advantage for us,” the coach said.
