Stefano Pioli says Milan players are not satisfied with their 3-3 draw against Roma and defends goalkeeper Ciprian Tătărușanu.
"I go home satisfied with the performance but we do not have to look at the table. We can’t hide it, at the end of the game the players were not satisfied,” Pioli told Sky Sport.
“We played against a strong opponent. They used set pieces better than us but this is the right way, this performance gives us further convictions.
“There is a positive environment, full of harmony.
“We give our best every single day. I like to emphasize the spirit of the team, it is a generous group. We are second to no one in terms of determination. We must continue with this attitude.”
Roma managed to score their first goal making the most of a mistake of Ciprien Tatarusanu.
“Mistakes are part of football, Tatarusanu missed the ball,” said Pioli.
“He is a strong goalkeeper, it was at his debut, a little something that may have had an impact."
Referee Piero Giacomelli was also on the spotlight as he awarded two doubful penatlies to both parties.
"I don’t want to comment it,” said Pioli.
The Rossoneri coach was satisfied but noticed a few things his side could have done better.
“Sometimes we forced too much in the first half and some choices were unclear, it was enough to move the ball a little bit more to create spaces.
“We could have done better on that, but we always tried to be dangerous.
“We could have scored more goals, but let’s not forget we were facing Roma. We are growing, we will need all the players, we have the qualities to go ahead in all competitions.
“We lacked a bit of technical precision when we were in control of the game.”
Rafael Leao was brilliant with two assists.
"I spoke quite clearly to Rafa this week. I told him what I expect from him and I am very happy with his performance.
“He’s a very young and strong boy. [Alexis] Saelemaekers is growing so much as well, we also have [Samu] Castillejo and [Ante] Rebic who has been out for a month. [Jens Petter] Hauge was doing well too. We raised the level of the attacking department.
Hauge missed the game as he tested positive for Coronavirus and the same is true of Gigio Donnarumma.
“We are checked every day or almost every day,” Pioli said.
“This situation is affecting everyone. We’re doing our best, we’re playing following the rules and the club is helping us.
"It’s such a difficult time for everyone it is very important that we continue to play, to give some fun to fans and sportsmen.
“A thousand fans are not a lot but today we felt the difference. It’s sad to only hear my voice or the voice of the players.”
Roma-Milan was played without crowd after that the Italian Government decided to go ahead with professional sports but without allowing 1000 fans in the stands as it happened during the last month.
