Reports continue to suggest Milan are ‘optimistic’ that they will agree a new contract with Rafael Leao, despite the interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.

The 23-year-old is only tied to the San Siro giants until June 2024 and has been negotiating a new deal for at least a year.

His demands increased after Milan won the Scudetto, with the Portugal international named Player of the Season in Serie A along with numerous other awards.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri are optimistic that their strong rapport with agent Jorge Mendes will help them resolve the situation positively with a contract extension.

Leao is asking for €9m per season to pen a new deal, a massive increase considering he is still on the original €1.5m plus bonuses that saw him arrive from Lille.

The offer was €6m plus bonuses and they hope to bridge the gap with add-ons.

Another element that could be decisive is Milan helping Leao to pay off the outstanding €16.5m he owes Lille for breach of contract.
