According to Calciomercato.com, Milan have opened talks with RB Salzburg to sign Strahinja Pavlovic, their primary defensive target this summer.

Milan have opened preliminary talks to sign Serbia international Pavlovic from Red Bull Salzburg, according to a report by Calciomercato.com.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reported last week that the Rossoneri were interested in the 23-year-old. According to this latest report, Pavlovic is Milan’s primary defensive target for the 2024 summer transfer window.

Milan open talks for €20m primary defensive target

Calciomercato confirms that Salzburg’s asking price is around €20m, so Milan are considering the best deal structure before making an opening formal offer.

It is believed, however, that the Rossoneri need to sell Malick Thiaw before signing Pavlovic.

In his first press conference earlier this week, new Milan coach Paulo Fonseca said signing a new centre-forward is the club’s priority.

The Portuguese refused to blame the Rossoneri centre-backs for the many goals conceded in 2023-24, which, on paper, confirms Milan must sell one of their defenders before signing a new one.
