Milan have been offered the opportunity to sign Loris Karius on a free transfer after Marco Sportiello’s painful hand injury.

The 32-year-old Italian shot stopper suffered a serious cut on his left hand whilst in the hotel in New York, an injury that’ll keep him out of action for at least two months. It’s still unclear if he’ll need to undergo an operation to resolve the issue or not.

The injury has forced Milan’s hand, as the club now need to find a reliable backup for Mike Maignan. 19-year-old Lorenzo Torriani, who started in the friendly win over Manchester City, is considered too young to take on the role, pushing the club to examine their options.

Milan offered Karius

Calciomercato.com details how Milan have been offered the opportunity to sign Karius on a free transfer following Sportiello’s injury. Former Roma goalkeeper Rui Patricio has also been proposed to the club, giving them options.

The Rossoneri’s decision could be influenced by their squad registration rules, as only three players developed in Italy – Alessandro Florenzi, Sportiello and Filippo Terracciano – and three trained with the club – Mattia Gabbia, Tommaso Pobega and Davide Calabria.
