Multiple sources in Italy claim Sandro Tonali will make his 2022-23 Serie A debut starting against Atalanta on Sunday.

The Italy international missed the season’s opener against Udinese last week because of a muscle injury. However, he has returned to group training this week and is expected to start against Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday night.

Sky Sport Italia, Gazzetta and Milannews report Tonali will get the nod against La Dea in the second match of the season in two days.

Antonio Vitiello adds that Ante Rebic is the favourite to start up front over Olivier Giroud, while Junior Messias and Alexis Saelemaekers will battle it out for a spot on the right flank.

Rebic scored a brace in the opening match against Udinese last week.

Tonali has entered his third season at San Siro and has scored five goals in 82 appearances with the Rossoneri.

He took a pay cut to join Milan permanently one year ago after the first season on loan with the Diavoli.
