Ruben Loftus-Cheek won’t be available against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday and Milan coach Stefano Pioli has three options to replace the English midfielder.
RLC was subbed off in the first half of Milan’s 2-0 win over Lazio on Saturday. He will undergo medical tests on Monday morning, but the latest reports in Italy suggest the ex-Chelsea midfielder could remain out of action for several games.
Pioli will have four midfielders available against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday: Yacine Adli, Yunus Musah, Tommaso Pobega and Tijjani Reijnders.
As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, if Pioli confirms Adli as a deep-lying playmaker, then Musah and Reijnders will complete a three-man midfield in Germany.
Pioli doesn’t see Adli as a box-to-box midfielder so if the Frenchman doesn’t start against Borussia Dortmund, Reijnders will be deployed as a Regista with Musah and Pobega taking the other two spots in the middle of the park.
The third and last option would be to swap Musah and Reijnders, using the USMNT international as a Regista and the Dutchman as a box-to-box midfielder.
