Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reportedly decided to play for one more season, provided he won’t need to undergo a new surgery in the coming weeks.

The Swede’s contract at San Siro runs out in June and his future remains up in the air given his struggles with injuries this season. The 40-year-old has scored eight goals in 23 appearances this term, missing 18 games because of injuries.

According to Calciomercato.com, the striker has already decided that he wants to continue playing for one more season, but a final decision isn’t only up to him. The former Manchester United and Barcelona striker isn’t willing to retire but will have a specialist visit in the coming weeks to evaluate whether or not he needs a new keyhole surgery.

If a new operation isn’t necessary, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara will offer him a new one-year deal until June 2023. On the other hand, if Ibra needs to go under the knife, forcing him to remain out of action for several months, he may decide to end his playing career. Milan remain on the lookout for a new centre forward regardless of Ibrahimovic’s decision over his future.

  1. I think it will be better for everyone if he hangs up his boots. I’d love for him to stay close to the team in another role, but his playing days are surely over. 41 years of age is no joke for a footballer, even if he’s Zlatan. Milan need to manage our resources and have strikers who we can count on. Playing 10-15 games a season is fine for a youngster to grow but not for him and not on his wages.

  2. Ibra impact off the pitch worth easily 20mil euro a year. Please stay another year till the youngsters are fully mature. Grande Zlaaaatan!!

  3. I want to see his impact on and of the field. He is soo important for this young squad. Even if he plays 2 games, his presence is an extra weapon for Milan.

  4. I’m happy for him to continue playing and training alongside the team for a reduced wage. He’s proven he’s capable of making a huge impact in a limited role as a sort of player-coach. If he’s happy with only a handful of matches, few minutes, and a reduced wages, sign him up to keep everyone else on their toes in training and games.

  5. That header though!!!!! The dude can still play, and if he’s more motivated, and therefore more motivating, by the prospect of occasionally coming off the bench and getting the glory, then keep him in the squad. His impact on the younger players has become even more clear this past week.

  6. I don’t pay him so I don’t really care what he earns. Happy to have him around the place so long as he accepts he will mainly be 2nd/3rd choice. His importance behind the scenes is his main attribute right now. Someone needs to keep the likes of Leao honest. Keep him and then lock him into a forwards coaching role at the end of the season. Legend.

  7. He should stay one more season and stay at milan afterwards as a trainer or coach. He proved that he can raise the mentality and use the experience to teach youngsters how to use their talent as well as boost their will and courage.
