“The real Milan is the one you see every week, both teams,” Mihajlovic told reporters in his Press conference ahead of the Juventus game.
“We have to try and find consistency in performances and results. We’ve taken 11 points from our last five games. You can’t always win, even if we’d have liked to do better against Atalanta.
“I have nothing to criticise the lads for, they tried. I’m not looking for excuses, but we played without three key players.
“That’s not to say that those who came in hurt us, but they didn’t have 90 minutes in their legs.
“We haven’t started the way we wanted to, but since the Napoli game we have over two points per game, and we’re convinced we can repeat that until the end of the first round.
“Then in the return fixtures we’ll face all our rivals at home, except for Napoli.”
Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon celebrated the 20th anniversary of his Serie A debut yesterday, and his Diavolo namesake Donnarumma is being tipped to follow in his footsteps.
“He [Donnarumma] will be playing against a legend like Gigi [Buffon], who could be his father. He has everything to learn from him.
“Not just the talent, but the professionalism, character and enthusiasm. Gigetto has all the qualities to be a worthy heir, but wait 10 years before comparing the two.
“He’s alert, he’s good, he’s a smart lad and he’ll definitely be the future of Italian football. He has to work hard and grow, but he’s proving he has great character and personality.”
Tomorrow’s game in Turin represents the first game back since the international break, is Mihajlovic worried about a lack of sharpness?
“[Carlos] Bacca, [Riccardo] Montolivo and [Alessio] Cerci went to the national team. Knowing [Italy CT Antonio] Conte, they’ll have trained well – maybe too much!” The Serbian joked.
“Bacca did well with Colombia. [M’Baye] Niang and [Andrea] Poli have been training, so they’re in better condition.”
Finally, Mihajlovic spared a word about the atrocities which rocked Paris last week, having grown up and begun his career in war-torn Yugoslavia.
“We’re all shocked by what happened, and we’re behind the French people. It’s a strange war, as you don’t know what to expect, unlike the war in Yugoslavia.
“It’s very difficult, but we have to try and live calmly, and not in terror, because that’s what they want.”
