The former Juve striker is keen to return to Italy and would accept the move, but the Blues would have to lower their €65-70m asking price.
Higuain remains an option, with Monaco’s Radamel Falcao as the third name on the shortlist.
Leonardo has also been in contact with Atletico Madrid about Nikola Kalinic, with the Croatian set to move on after one year at San Siro.
