23-year-old Gent left-back Archie Brown is set to join Fenerbahce, rather than Milan, who had also been pushing for the Englishman’s signature over the last week.

Milan miss out on Brown to Fenerbahce

Brown is set to travel to Istanbul for a medical with Jose Mourinho’s side after the Turkish giants struck a deal with Gent for a price in the region of €10m, Football Italia can confirm.

The former Derby County youth player, who has spent the entirety of his senior career outside of the UK, had also been closely linked with a move to join Milan this summer.

There had been much speculation about his potential future with the Rossoneri on Friday, to the extent that there were inaccurate rumours that he had begun to make the journey over to Italy for a medical.

Milan had looked to intercept the deal between Gent and Fenerbahce, however, it required a stronger intervention from the Rossoneri, which ultimately was not the case.

Fenerbahce had already taken the lead in the race to sign Brown a few days earlier, and Milan’s attempts to overcome the Mourinho pull were unsuccessful.

  1. Good, buy a young Italian, stop looking for foreign youth. Who is Brown anyway, a random English player unknown in England, why not look at Serie A or Serie B for a young Italian…
