According to Sky Sport Italia, Milan are following the instructions of coach Stefano Pioli and making AZ Alkmaar midfielder Tijjani Reijnders their priority on the transfer market.

Pioli met with CEO Giorgio Furlani today at Casa Milan headquarters and discussed their transfer strategy moving forward.

That also seemingly included Reijnders as the first choice to replace Sandro Tonali, who was today sold to Newcastle United for €70m plus another €10m in bonuses.

Both Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport Italia claim that negotiations with AZ Alkmaar formally started today and the opening bid is expected to be circa €19m.

The Dutch side already turned down proposals worth €14m plus bonuses that came in from Spain and England, with West Ham United the main competition.

Reijnders turns 25 later this month and is under contract with AZ Alkmaar until June 2027.

Along with Reijnders, the other main Milan target is Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic, who has turned down Olympique Lyonnais so he can wait for the Rossoneri.
