Alexis Saelemaekers has been ruled out of Milan’s remaining games in 2022 after suffering a serious knee injury.

The 23-year-old Belgian has been a regular feature under Stefano Pioli this campaign, appearing in all but one of their matches. He started in yesterday’s exciting 3-1 win over Empoli but was taken off in the 33rd minute after going down with a painful injury, giving Pioli even less options at the start of this busy six-week period.

As reported by Sky Sports Italia, Saelemaekers has been ruled out of action for Milan for between six and eight weeks after suffering a sprained left knee, making the Rossoneri’s injury crisis even more concerning ahead of their Champions League clash with Chelsea.

Milan already have six players out with injuries – Mike Maignan, Alessandro Florenzi, Theo Hernandez, Junior Messias, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Divock Origi – and now the Belgian has made that seven.

The 23-year-old will therefore have to wait until after the World Cup break to take to the pitch again.

  1. Unfortunate, he had been playing pretty well. De Ketelaere will hopefully be put on the right for a few matches.

  2. De Ketelaere can play on that side. Even more the reason for Pioli to give Adli more of a chance to play centrally.

  3. Rosario
Would like to see more of Adli for sure. Diaz too. He has improved the pace of the attack when he’s come off the bench lately.

  4. People saying De Ketelaere can play on right.

Let’s hope he’s better there than he has been in the centre.

So far this kid has been extremely disappointing.
