Milan have now seen both their lengthy Serie A unbeaten runs ended, as they lost after 22 rounds and tonight was their first away loss in 17 journeys.

The Rossoneri marched to the Scudetto last season largely due to a very strong showing in 2022.

They were unbeaten overall since the infamous 2-1 home defeat to Spezia on January 17, 2022, which saw a Junior Messias goal incorrectly not given because the referee blew the whistle too early to give the advantage, after which Spezia went on the counter to score the winner instead.

That result was followed by 15 wins and seven draws until another 2-1 loss at San Siro, this time to Napoli on September 18.

Milan still held the longest unbeaten away streak in Europe’s top five leagues up until this evening, when they capitulated 2-1 at Torino’s Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.

Their last away defeat in Serie A was a 4-3 thriller at Fiorentina on November 20, 2021.

It means their run was cut short just shy of a full calendar year, in which they amassed 12 wins and five stalemates.

  1. In many ways, the performance tonight mirrored that in Firenze in November last year. Never really in the game, full of mistakes, bad decision making etc. At any level, if you don’t win second balls, you are going to have a bad time. That midfield is non existent without bennacer. Set the tone for the entire game.
