Stefano Pioli and Milan are expected to have to do without midfielder Yunus Musah for Sunday’s Serie A clash against Monza, as the US-international has been struck down by illness following Tuesday’s victory over Newcastle in the Champions League.

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport via Milannews.it, Musah had already been struggling with fatigue in the build-up to the midweek game against Newcastle.

Now, he is almost certain to be ruled out of action for Sunday’s league fixture.

Musah was one of three first-team midfielders Milan had brought in to the club this summer, alongside Tijjani Reijnders and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The three of them have only started together three times so far, all of which have come in the last three outings.

In Musah’s absence, Pioli will instead have to rely upon the likes of Ismael Bennacer and Yacine Adli. The former is the more likely candidate according to La Gazzetta.

If Bennacer were given the nod, it would be his first start for the Rossoneri since May, when he suffered a serious injury to his knee in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Inter
