Granit Xhaka is Milan’s alternative to Axel Witsel in this January’s transfer market, according to reports.
The Rossoneri are believed to be in the market for a central midfielder, and had been linked with a move for Zenit St Petersburg’s Axel Witsel.
One stumbling block for that deal could be the high transfer fee the Russian club are likely to demand, and the Corriere dello Sport believes that could lead the Diavolo to look at alternatives.

Chief among those alternatives, according to the newspaper, is Granit Xhaka of Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The 22-year-old has already won 33 caps for the Swiss national team, and has been compared to Andrea Pirlo and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The sports paper believes that Xhaka would be available for around €9m, significantly less than the €20m it would cost to bring Witsel to San Siro.
