Milan defender Simon Kjaer was stretched off in the opening minutes of Genoa-Milan with a suspected knee injury.

It happened after just four minutes at the Stadio Ferraris in Genoa, where Andriy Shevchenko faces his former club.

Kjaer collided with Andrea Cambiaso down the Genoa left and remained lying on the pitch, needing intervention from Milan’s medical staff.

He seems to have suffered an injury to his left knee.

The Dane was delicately placed on the stretcher and was brought off the pitch with a big icepack strapped to his knee. Matteo Gabbia was introduced in his place.

The Serie A giants travelled to Genoa without the suspended Alessio Romagnoli, while Fikayo Tomori had returned from an injury.

Kjaer has recently signed a new two-year contract with the Rossoneri. He ranked 18th at the Ballon d’Or.

The Denmark captain, 32, joined Milan on a permanent deal from Atalanta in January 2020 and has played 13 games across all competitions this season.
