Milan have joined the growing list of teams across the continent interested in picking up Marcus Thuram on a free transfer when he leaves Borussia Moenchengladbach upon the expiry of his contract at the end of this season.
The Rossoneri have made no secret of the fact that they are in the market for a new centre-forward in the summer transfer window, with Olivier Giroud aged 36, Ibrahimovic 41 and with Divock Origi failing to impress since joining from Liverpool last year.
Milan, however, face stiff competition from seemingly every club in Europe at the moment, as written by Il Corriere dello Sport on page five of Saturday’s print edition, with Juventus also reported to be keen on Thuram, as well as several clubs in France, Spain and in the Premier League, namely Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United.
The Frenchman, who was born in Parma while his father, Lilian, played for them between 1996 and 2001, has netted 13 goals in the Bundesliga so far this season as well as laying on a further six assists for his teammates.
At 25 years of age, Thuram is close to hitting his prime and with international experience with France under his belt, the opportunity to pick him up on a free transfer is said to be an enticing prospect for the Rossoneri.
So with him being born in Italy, would he count towards our ‘homegrown’ quota?
