Milan is the latest club interested in free agent Mario Hermoso, already linked with Napoli and Inter, while RSC Anderlecht step up talks for Jan-Carlo Simic.

The Rossoneri are revamping their defence under new coach Paulo Fonseca and need someone to step in following the release of Simon Kjaer.

Strahinja Pavlovic is the main target, but his €20m valuation from RB Salzburg is causing problems.

Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio claims this evening that a new approach has now been made for Hermoso, who is a free agent after his contract with Atletico Madrid was allowed to run down.

The 29-year-old Spain international has his heart set on Serie A for weeks, as negotiations with Napoli were already at an advanced stage, then Inter joined in.

Now Milan are the latest candidates and they will face the same basic issue, which is the personal terms, including commission and a signing-on bonus.

Milan target Hermoso and release Simic

Meanwhile, the Rossoneri are also progressing in negotiations to sell youth defender Simic to RSC Anderlecht.

They had originally hoped to keep him, but his refusal to sign a new contract after months of talks frustrated the club.

It is reported by Matteo Moretto that Anderlecht will pay €3m for Simic, plus a cut of the future sell-on fee.
