Milan likely to pick new Italian coach as seven candidates emerge

Tuttosport newspaper reports Milan will likely hire an Italian coach for 2025-26 and names seven candidates for the Rossoneri’s bench, including Massimiliano Allegri, Maurizio Sarri and Vincenzo Italiano.

Milan are having a nightmare of a season as the Rossoneri have changed two coaches, but are currently 11 points below the Serie A top four and are, therefore, likely to miss out on a Champions League spot for 2025-26.

Sergio Conceiçao was appointed in December but hasn’t been able to turn things around in the second part of the season, so Milan are expected to activate an option to end his contract in June.

According to Tuttosport newspaper, Milan are considering the appointment of an Italian coach for next season. However, a final decision will be made alongside a new director of sports who will be hired in the coming weeks.

Tuttosport claims that if Milan were ‘free to choose,’ they’d prioritise Carlo Ancelotti, but it’s unclear whether their ex-coach would leave Madrid and return to San Siro.

Antonio Conte, Gian Piero Gasperini, Maurizio Sarri, Massimiliano Allegri, Roberto De Zerbi and even Bologna’s Vincenzo Italiano are said to be on Milan’s radars.

Sarri rejected an offer to replace Paulo Fonseca in December because he demanded a deal lasting more than six, 12 or 18 months. Nevertheless, the ex-Napoli and Juventus boss remains in the race for the job this summer.

Conte is under contract with Napoli until 2027, but Gazzetta already named the Partenopei boss in relation to the Milan job last week.

Gasperini recently claimed that he would not extend his Atalanta contract beyond 2026, suggesting that he could even leave Bergamo at the end of the season.

In the meantime, according to Gazzetta, CEO Giorgio Furlani and owner Gerry Cardinale are meeting in New York to discuss short-term and long-term strategies.
