Milan and Inter have been urged to focus on restructuring San Siro and ‘abandon fantasy projects’ of building new arenas outside the city, as politicians and locals turn on them.

Both clubs were so frustrated by the veto put on knocking down the existing Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, in the San Siro area of Milano, that they instead decided to plan the construction of new stadiums.

The Nerazzurri picked the area of Rozzano, while the Rossoneri hoped to build their arena in San Donato.

However, following today’s meeting of the Regione Lombardia local authorities, both of those seem frankly unlikely for the foreseeable future.

Everyone is against idea of new Milan and Inter stadiums

Political figures from Left and Right united in their condemnation of the plans, insisting that local people did not want the huge sports stadiums built in their back yard, noting that ‘critical problems’ had not been resolved.

“The alternative exists and it is to keep the teams in Milano in the Scala del Calcio, with an important reconstruction of the stadium to bring it up to modern international standards and legitimise the expectations of the clubs in increasing revenue,” said Fratelli d’Italia politician Marco Bestetti.

“This solution is certainly the path to follow. Milan and Inter should abandon their fantasy projects of improbable cathedrals in the middle of fields.”

Pietro Bussolati and Simone Negri, who represent rival Partito Democratico party, also warned they were “extremely worried by the impact one, let alone two, new stadiums would have for all the south of Milan. It would paralyse transport.”

M5S politician Nicola Di Marco said they would propose a motion so that the local authorities could make it clear they were going to block the new stadium plans.

  1. English inter fan ..that’s why Italian football will always be behind other leagues . Carry on playing in a run down stadium which belongs to the cancil. Wake up people

  2. The Comune rUn by a an idiot has stalled and stalled it’s potential redevelopment to such an extent that part of the stadium became a protected monument. Milan having got so fed up have acquired a site and are looking to move the scheme forward. Of course this leaves Inter fan Sala the leader of the Comune with a white elephant that his team can’t afford to redevelop on their own. And of course a white elephant for the city. Hence political shin anigans to entice them back to the Meazza.

  3. If they stopped Milan from building new Stadium,I a Nigerian,an African,a Milan fan since 1993 will beg God to give me the Grace to stop following Italian football for the rest of my life.
Milan is the hope of Italy in the world

  4. That’s why they say Italy is the middle east of the Europe.
