Milan intensify Loftus-Cheek talks with Chelsea

There are growing reports in Italy that Milan are in advanced negotiations with Chelsea for Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The link is hardly new, going back even to January, while earlier this month Sportitalia, La Gazzetta dello Sport and Calciomercato.com all suggested the Rossoneri were pursuing the England international.

Now Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano claims the talks are ‘concrete’ and that he is the priority to reinforce the midfield.

It has become more of a matter of urgency now that Ismael Bennacer has been ruled out for six months by a serious knee injury, having undergone surgery this week.

Loftus-Cheek is only under contract with Chelsea until June 2024 and is therefore available at a cut-price deal.

The big problem reported by Sportitalia would be his salary rather than the transfer fee, as Milan keep a tight leash on their wage bill.

The 27-year-old would be the latest player to leave Chelsea for Serie A after Milan defender Fikayo Tomori and Roma striker Tammy Abraham.
