Initially there were no recognisable right-wing-backs in the squad, so Fabio Borini was expected to take over the unusual role in their 3-5-2 system, but the club website later updated its list to include Ignazio Abate.

However, Gabriel Paletta is back in the side after he was frozen out seeking a summer transfer.

Riccardo Montolivo also missed out in midfield.
