Milan are on the right track financially, having increased their revenue by 16 per cent this year and decreased their losses to €67m.

Football Benchmark published its study of Europe’s top football clubs and found that the reigning Serie A champions are moving in the right direction.

In 2021/22 they managed to increase their revenue by 16 per cent and maintained the costs at the same levels, so that allowed the club to cut down losses to €67m.

It’s a huge improvement from the losses of €200m in 2020 and €100m in 2021.

Perhaps because it is the year after the pandemic was at its height and the stadiums opened up again, but in the study Milan, Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Ajax and Trabzonspor all increased their revenue compared to the previous campaign.

The only champions of the European leagues to buck that trend was FC Porto.

When it comes to revenue, the survey shows how Serie A really is at a disadvantage compared to many other leagues.

Milan peaked at €269m, compared to €627m at Bayern Munich, €670m at PSG, €714m for Real Madrid and €731m at Manchester City.

  1. Compared to the other champions in Europe, Milan is a dwarf financially. There is much work to be done to redress the imbalance. Starting with the stadium.

  2. @Feroll, and yet I hear many voices asking M&M to sign quality players and Italian players in their ranks!?! If this does not make plain what players we need to continue signing, I don’t know what will!!

  3. I would really like to know how PSG generated 670m Euro. More than Bayern Munich and not far behind Real Madrid. If their revenue generation is through authentic channels, then I’m Scottish.
