According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the San Donato area, just outside Milano, is the latest spot considered by Milan directors to build their new stadium.
Gerry Cardinale is in a hurry to build a new home for the Rossoneri. According to Gazzetta, the area of San Donato, south-east of Milano, is now being assessed by the club owner and directors.
There are many pros regarding the project, even if the area is not part of the city of Milano. First of all, the site identified by Milan is privately owned and doesn’t belong to the city council, so the process to start building would be much quicker than, for example, erecting at San Siro.
The area is also well-connected. It can be reached by tube with the yellow line and is close to two major roadways used by more than five million people every year. The exposure would be excellent for sponsorship deals while Milan’s new stadium would become the first infrastructure seen by people arriving in Milano or passing by the Lombard capital.
On the other hand, however, the area isn’t massive, circa 22.5 acres, which would leave limited space for commercial activities and car parking.
At this stage, the Rossoneri are deciding the best company to carry forward the project, but the club seem determined to build their new stadium alone, without city rivals Inter.
2093 might see the first game.
