Malick Thiaw suffered a severe lesion to his left hamstring and Milan are hoping the injury won’t require surgical intervention to resolve.

The 22-year-old German centre back was forced off the pitch in the 53rd minute of the Rossoneri’s Champions League loss to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. Visibly pained and holding his left hamstring, concerns were high that another player could be ruled out of action for weeks.

Thiaw was seen leaving San Siro on crutches and tests on Wednesday morning confirmed the presence of a severe myotendinous injury to the biceps femoris of his left thigh, an issue that carries a two-month recovery time at the minimum.

Page 18 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Thiaw will undergo further tests in the next seven to 10 days, which’ll confirm whether he needs to undergo an operation or if he can recover using a conversative treatment plan.

Should he require surgery, the defender would be absent for longer than just two months, further exacerbating the club’s injury crisis.
