Milan and Manchester United both remain interested in a deal for Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana, but the Rossoneri are still hopeful that the Premier League side move on to their other target, Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain.

Both Milan and Manchester United have been pursuing a deal for Fofana for most of this transfer window, but neither have yet satisfied Monaco with a suitable bid.

The price tag has gone up and down a fair bit this summer as well, with Milan confident of striking a deal in the region of €20m, only for the Ligue 1 side to increase their asking price to €35m after reported interest from United and Atletico Madrid.

Why PSG and Man United swap deal could help Milan land Fofana

Similarly to Milan, it is no secret that Manchester United are also on the lookout for a new midfielder before the close of the transfer window.

While Fofana is still an option, the Red Devils have also been following PSG’s Ugarte for several months.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the Premier League outfit are now discussing a possible exchange deal with PSG involving former Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, who is still out of favour under United coach Erik ten Hag.

If United and PSG are able to strike a deal involving Ugarte, then Monaco will have one less suitor interested in Fofana, which only comes to benefit Milan.

Milan’s latest offer for Fofana stood at a reported €20m, which La Gazzetta suggest may need to be raised closer to the €25m mark in order to get the deal over the line.
