Milan hope to re-enter contract negotiations with star full-back Theo Hernandez once he fully returns to the squad after France’s elimination from EURO 2024 last week, according to reports in Italy.
The 26-year-old is currently away on holiday after starting in all six of France’s matches at the summer tournament in Germany.
He is expected to return to the Milan squad in time for the team’s final friendly, against Barcelona, in their mini-tour of the United States at the beginning of August, although he is first expected to begin personalised work at Milanello before being thrusted back into action.
Milan’s plan to extend Theo Hernandez deal
Hernandez’s Milan contract is due to expire in just under two years’ time, in the summer of 2026. The same goes for a number of key Rossoneri players, including goalkeeper and compatriot Mike Maignan.
According to Calciomercato.com and La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan directors Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada are prepared to re-open contract talks with Theo Hernandez once he gets back to base for the 2024-25 season.
Sunday’s reports suggest that Milan could put Hernandez on a similar wage packet to their current highest earner, Rafael Leao, who currently takes home an annual base salary of around €6.5m.
The Frenchman reportedly earns around €4.5m on his current deal.
