According to reports, Milan chiefs realise they need a former player to replace Paolo Maldini at the training ground and could look to Franco Baresi.

The fans and players were furious when Maldini was suddenly sacked by new patron Gerry Cardinale, along with his director of sport Frederic Massara.

With a few recent transfers falling apart, including Marcus Thuram and Davide Frattesi joining their rivals Inter, some pointed out they were missing a figure who represented the legendary Milan and could help inspire the new players.

Now MilanNews.it director Antonio Vitiello claims the club has found someone who can fulfil that role, but without the same level of responsibility and decision-making that Maldini wanted.

Baresi already works for Milan as an Honorary Vice-President and had been at the club even longer than Maldini.

It is hoped that pushing Baresi into a more media-friendly position can also help smooth over some of the tension with fans caused by the Maldini dismissal.

  1. Your new site design really needs the ‘related posts’ to be swipeable instead of 3 pictures/links in a row, and ‘Club news’ to be linked toalong with the ‘related posts’. It would hugely improve the site.
