Milan have suggested that they will bring in a new striker on loan during January as a possible replacement for Antonio Cassano.

The Rossoneri have been associated with numerous players as cover for the Italian international who could be out for six months following heart surgery.

Reports over the last few days have linked Catania ace Maxi Lopez, while Juventus icon Alessandro Del Piero has also been sensationally paired.

“Del Piero? Let’s not joke around,” Rossoneri Vice-President Adriano Galliani stated on Monday.

“As for Lopez, he is a player who would be good enough for Milan, but there are a lot of players who would be suitable for us.

“I’ve read the Lopez stories, but there are various options available to us. Let us wait and see how Cassano is first.

“If we do bring in someone then it will probably be a loan deal with an option to buy clause at the end of the season.”

Turning to on field matters, Galliani expressed his satisfaction after Milan’s surge up the League table in recent weeks.

“We wanted to win five games in a row after the defeat at Juventus and we’re happy that we have done that,” he added.

“We thought that would be enough to take us back to the top of the table, but Lazio and Udinese have been very good.”

Milan are third on 20 points, one shy of joint leaders Udinese and Lazio. Juve, who didn’t play this weekend, are fourth thanks to their 19 points.
