Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan made his comeback after five months out with a calf injury and also replied to a bizarre rumour he had a drug problem.

The France international picked up the injury initially while playing for Les Bleus in September 2022 and the recovery took far longer than expected due to relapses of the delicate calf muscle.

He returned to the field in last night’s 2-0 Serie A victory over Atalanta at San Siro and celebrated with several Instagram posts.

This included one with the message in big letters on a red background: “My only drugs: faith, hard work and victories.”

Maignan also added two emojis representing work and being ice cold.

The Instagram Stories post was not entirely random, as there have been some very strange rumours doing the rounds on social media in recent weeks suggesting Maignan’s lengthy time off the field was not just due to injury, but also to a drug problem.

There is absolutely no evidence for this, though some have tried to peddle obviously faked audio clips, an increasing trend around football figures in Italy.
