Milan: Giroud has overturned the attacking hierarchy

Olivier Giroud has become a regular starter at Milan and the Rossoneri have lost just one of the 18 games started by the ex-Chelsea star this season.

The 2018 France World Cup winner moved to the Stadio Meazza in the summer and was supposed to be Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s back-up. However, the many injuries suffered by the Swede in 2021-22 have made Giroud become a regular starter in the red and black half of Milan.

Giroud seems to have ended the No.9 curse becoming the most prolific striker wearing the No.9 shirt since Pippo Inzaghi.

He has scored 11 goals in 27 games across all competitions, including two crucial ones against Inter and one against Napoli. As La Gazzetta dello Sport points out, Milan have lost just one match out of the 18 played with Giroud from the first minute (13 wins, four draws).

Ibrahimovic has played a key role in helping Milan over the last two seasons. His leadership and charisma on and off the pitch have given crucial help to Stefano Pioli, but Il Diaolo no longer misses the Swede when he is not around.

Nevertheless, the Rossoneri will still need Ibra and Giroud to keep their title hopes alive and gain as many points as possible in the last 10 league games of the season.
