The research group within the International Centre for Sports Studies has examined the league minutes for footballers who have not yet turned 21 this season and Ivan Juric’s Hellas Verona are the leading side from Italy.

In the top five European Leagues, the highest figures were at Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, with three Ligue 1 sides following the BVB.

In the top five European Leagues, the highest figures were at Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, with three Ligue 1 sides following the BVB.

Dortmund had 28.5 per cent of minutes played by under-21 footballers, with Hellas Verona at 14th on 11.7 per cent.

Cagliari are the next on the list of Italian teams, with 11.3 per cent leaving them 17th in the ranking.

Milan, who are registered with the fourth lowest average age in the top five Leagues, are 27th in the table with 7.8 per cent of minutes by under-21s.

Serie A has three teams in the top 10 of the oldest, with Lazio having the oldest average squad in the top five Leagues on 29.4 years.

Benevento and Inter sit in the top 10, with Inter and Lazio the only two Italian teams who haven’t played an under-21 footballer this term.
